Illinois Businesses Successful Trade Mission in China

Bensenville, Illinois - Aug 02, 2012

As part of State Trade Export Promotion (STEP) program, the IL businesses had a successful trade mission in China during June 2-13, 2012. The group was led by the state of IL Office of Trade and Investment and IL SBDC International Trade Center at Governors State University.

During the two weeks trip, that including participation in the Transportation and Logistics Trade Show in Shanghai, tours of Chinese logistics businesses and match making,  attending the workshop of “Doing Business in China and China Logistics Industry” , and hosting “Meeting with US Logistics partners” roundtable and reception in Beijing and Shanghai. The trade group has acquired tremendous achievement through the trade mission. The IL business participants had met more than 1000 company representatives in the trade shows covering 40 different countries, acquired 600 sales leads, and obtained 200 agents leads, signed new contracts and strategic cooperation agreement. They reported the sales during the event reached up to $ 2.3 million and estimated sales value in the next 12 months up to $125 million, involved in this trade mission.

IL businesses group consisted of eight companies, covering the transportation equipment manufacture, airport, freight forwarding and export packing service companies. Most of the participants are the first time to China. They were very excited in exploring China’s rapidly expanding economy, especially the big potential market in the logistics industry, and experienced the diverse business cultures as well.

“By participating in the STEP program, it was a real “eye-opener” of the great potential opportunity with China.  Better recognition, understanding, and awareness of the potential trade success Mi-Jack could enjoy with establishing new contacts in China. Over all, good organization and effort to assure trip was meaningful and productive,” said by Daniel Reis, Vice President of Port Division, Mi-Jack Products.

“The STEP program provided a great opportunity to explore the possibilities with a multitude of companies at the expo. The state Office of Trade and Investment and International Trade Center at GSU did a phenomenal job in preparing, coordinating and executing the objectives. Their personal touch, introductions, and translation services were top notch, as well as instrumental in match making and introductions to like mined Asian companies,” said by Bob Cleary, president of AAB Global Logistics.

As well as the positive feedback from businesses, there were twenty students from Governors State University who attended the logistics trade show in Shanghai, as part of their study abroad program in China. They worked alongside with the IL businesses to assist them in promoting IL products and service to the overseas clients. That would be a good connection with the exporting businesses and education.

“As for the STEP trade mission great achievement, we would like to thank for the support from the state OTI office, State China Office, IL SBDC International Trade Centers, Governors State University, US Embassy in China, China Communications and Transportation Association, COSCO Group and Sinotrans, etc. State of IL STEP program provides tremendous opportunities to small business exploring to overseas markets. With the Federal and State Export incentives, we have confidence to reach the National Export Initiative goal as doubling US exports by 2014, “commented by Mary Ma, director of IL SBDC International Trade Center at GSU.
